The Voyage of Freydis

Book 1 of the Vinland Viking Series

Synopsis

In 1000 A.D., Freydis Eiriksdöttir finds herself traumatized and pregnant in an abusive relationship, tormented by her homosexual husband, Thorvard of Gardar.  To break the chains of terror and shame that prevent her from ending her marriage, Freydis takes a harrowing journey across the North Atlantic on a dragon-prowed longboat bound for Vinland shores (Newfoundland, Canada).  After enduring a series of tragedies and hardships, Freydis manages to transcend trauma with the help of Logatha, her fiercely protective Icelandic friend, and Achak, an honourable man from a Beothuk tribe.  But when Thorvard hunts her down, Freydis is forced to make the ultimate sacrifice in order to save the lives of those she loves.

Into the Unknown offers a revisionist telling of the life of Freydis Eiriksdöttir, the first and only Norsewoman to lead a Viking expedition to North America.  Painted as a murderer, a mercenary and a thief in the ancient Norse sagas, Freydis’s intrigue is her curse.  This is her untold story — one that portrays her as an innocent and shatters the wicked reputation that has ghosted her through the centuries.
